I learned abut Mwangi from the Kenya page for Birding Pals. He met, and in some cases, exceeded my expectations. Our 12 hr. day exploring Nairobi National Park on 29 June 2025, was magnificent. Mwangi's keen eyes and ears made finding birds and animals a very successful experience. He was knowledgeable, patient, a good teacher, and very enjoyable to be with. Beyond that, he was professional in the making of arrangements and gave excellent suggestions. Everything was thought of and taken care of, so all I had to do was show up prepared at the appointed time. We have had an incredible experience with ConQuest Adventures Ltd. First, Mwangi has helped to arrange a tour given the amount of our budget. He has been all the time accessible by explaining perfectly all the options and giving advice also for accommodation . Then, tour guide Joe has brought us safely to Masai Mara and Amboseli park where we were doing safari. Joe really did his best and ensured that within 2 days we have seen all the animals!!! That was a perfect ride through the parks with all the stops for photos if needed and answering to all our questions 😄. Thank you very much for making our trip memorable and special!!! We have fallen in love with Kenya 💖💖💖.

Had a great morning birding with Charles as our driver and guide. 6-12pm managed 76 species. Charles is enthusiastic and knows his birds. Thanks to him we picked some tricky birds. I would recommend him if you need a driver/nature guide.

Me and a friend did the “3 days forest birding”-tour in October of 2024 and it was an exceptional experience!

Our guide Mwangi was super friendly and has an enormous knowledge of the birdlife in Kenya. Not only was he able to show us almost all of the target birds, but teaching us sustainably how to identify the species by eye and ear.

The tour brought us into amazing diverse habitats of central Kenya, like the forests of Mount Kenya or the Aberdare National Park, where some rare and (near) endemic species can be found. My personal highlights of that tour were: Olive Ibis, Hinde’s Babbler, Aberdare Cisticola and Sharpe’s Longclaw. But there was so much more to see and hear!

The selected accommodations were also nice and cozy.

We would definitely recommend doing this tour. Furthermore, if we will return to Kenya, we would do birdwatching with no other tour operator than Conquest Adventures.

TWO safaris for two, in two weeks with Mwangi. The first, of 7 days, to north from Nairobi, taking in Samburu National Reserve, the wooded slopes of Mount Kenya, Nyeri, Aberdare N Park, the grasslands of Kinangop plateau and finally Lake Naivasha . A wonderful trip for the birds, meeting some old favourites as well as some endemics we will likely never see again. But also of course for the animals, primarily in Samburu (Grevy's zebra, gerenuk, Beisa oryx). Great choices of accommodation too - Samburu Sopa Lodge, Castle Forest Lodge, Le Pristine hotel (Nyeri) and of course Elsamere Lodge on the shores of Lake Naivasha.
The second trip was a 2-day visit from Nairobi to beautiful (and dusty) Amboseli NP, with an overnight in the excellent Amboseli Discovery Camp, with en-suite tents and open dining.
The constant in all this was Mwangi, our driver and guide from ConQuest. We had met him a year earlier, on a day trip birding in Nairobi National Park, and knew that we would not find a better host and guide. Despite the long trip, he was a safe and effective driver, we never felt nervous despite the usual Africa driving hazards. He is also an excellent bird guide with the ability to spot the birds you did not notice, even when driving, and of course a sound and secure knowledge of all the species. All that, and a good companion too, with a calm presence, great sense of humour, and apparently tireless over a long and (for him, the driver) arduous trips.
Despite many birding trips in all parts of Africa, this were the first safaris in Kenya, and we can't wait to come back

We had an excellent experience in January and February 2025, on 3 safaris led by Mwangi, at ConQuest Adventures. The safari in Uganda was for about 10 days, and focused on finding and identifying birds, but included animals as well, particularly a memorable visit to forest chimpanzees in the wild. In Kenya, we had a four-day visit to Masai Mara reserve, and a one-day to Nairobi National Park. Mwangi is an excellent birder and animal spotter, and very knowledgeable in regard to wildlife and ecology in general. We highly recommend ConQuest.

My husband and I are avid birders, but this was our first time birding in Kenya, and our day trip with Mwangi in Nairobi National Park was the highlight of our trip! From the moment we met, Mwangi impressed us with his professionalism. He arrived on time with a spotless vehicle, fully prepared for the day ahead.

What truly set this experience apart was Mwangi’s vast knowledge of Kenyan birds and wildlife. He could identify birds not only by sight but by their calls as well, and his depth of understanding of their behaviors, habitats, and migratory patterns was remarkable. We also appreciated how much he knew about the other animals we encountered during the safari, adding richness to our experience.

Mwangi’s teaching style was another highlight. He didn’t just show us the birds; he took the time to explain their characteristics and patiently answered all our questions. We left with a deeper understanding for the unique birdlife of Kenya and learned so much more than we expected.

I contacted Mwangi from Conquest thru Birdingpal and he responded immediately. He proposed a very long itinerary and also provided a bird target list for each location. It was a 4 day, 3 night private custom trip for me and my wife, picking us from our AirBnB in Nairobi.

We traveled to Ol Donyo National Park and hiked the 2300 ft up a fairly sharp incline in one section to the top of the mountain. I was little worried as I was carrying my 400mm prime lens with a large hood, but we made it to the top on time and enjoyed the change of vegetation and weather as we hiked. We saw many beautiful birds, primarily because of Mwangi's excellent skills of recognizing bird calls and also his ability to spot inside a dark bush.

We drove to Nyeri for the night's stay at a tented lodge setup recently by a well known birding guide. The facilities were excellent, views were amazing and food was excellent! And the Masai guide there along with the owner-guide are excellent hosts.

Next day morning, we did a bit of birding at the lodge and then drove to Castle Forest. It had rained a lot and the trails were wet and muddy, but that didn't deter Mwangi or us from birding there. The lodge is basic, but an excellent location to enjoy the nature and birding. We saw many birds here as well.

The next day, we left for another upscale lodge in Nyeri where Mwangi had arranged the services of a local guide which was very useful. It looked like Mwangi knew the area well, but I liked the idea of an experienced local guide who knew exactly which bush/tree to go to for specific birds. We saw couple of endemics here.

On the last day, we traveled to Abderdare National Park and we entered thru one gate and exited thru another while birding all along. The scenery and the landscape was spectacular and we saw an important endemic here as well.

After this we drove to Kinangop plateau and met up with another very enthusiastic local guide. With his help we saw another endemic.

We returned back home by evening after a trip where I photographed 37 lifers, a very successful and fun birding trip.

He proposed lodges, one for each night, of which two were well known, but one didn't have a listing. Initially, I was hesitant, but went with it and it turned out to be one of our favorite lodges.

I highly recommend Mwangi as a guide and excellent planner. I will go birding with him again when I get the opportunity.

Our family had an awesome experience birding in Nairobi National Park with Mwangi, owner of ConQuest Adventures. We identified over 70 bird species in our short trip (a lot for rainy season), and saw hippo, crocodile, impala, lion, giraffe, and buffalo as well. Mwangi was so patient and understanding with our two rowdy young boys, and was overall so easy and fun to spend time with. He helped my bird-obsessed 9yo see his target birds, and helped him get awesome photos. Mwangi’s knowledge of birds and ability to identify species from a glance is something I’ve never seen before. He also gave us recommendations for what birds to look for near our hotel and neighborhood, including exact trees in which to find them. He graciously answered all of our questions about birds, animals, history, politics, and culture. It was an epic day. I can’t recommend Mwangi enough- with luck we can come back to Kenya and if so we will definitely book again, hopefully for one of the longer birding tours.
