Kevin Gichuki

Kevin Gichuki was born and brought up in Nairobi, a city with more than 500 Bird species, and a National Park close to it. Kevin Gichuki started birding at an early age which saw him join Nature Kenya (East Africa National History Society) after graduating with a diploma in tour guide to learn and understand more on Birds,

It’s at Nature Kenya that Kevin Gichuki acquired the necessary skills for bird guiding. He undertook the fundamentals of the Ornithology course organized by National Museums of Kenya (Ornithology Department), Nature Kenya & Tropical Biology Association (TBA). His stay at Nature Kenya has enabled Kevin to participate in various bird research done across Kenya, which has exposed him to different habitats, the country has. Kevin Gichuki has seen more than 800 bird species in East Africa,

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES:
Bird ringing – Assisting researcher in ringing House Sparrows in Moyale as part of research with National Museums of Kenya. Bird Ringing with the Nairobi Ringing Group which happens every Tuesday mornings at the National Museums of Kenya. Bird Ringing with the international team organized by the Ringing Scheme of Eastern Africa in Ngulia Lodge Tsavo West National Park every November-December. Kevin has guided several birding trips in East Africa

Conservation Education – facilitator in South and North Nandi schools environmental educational lectures (Bird watching for improved livelihoods)

He is also co-author of the book ‘Being a Bird’ which has more than 1000 copies sold locally and overseas. During his free time Kevin Gichuki volunteers at Nature walk in their weekly birdwatching walks, he mentors the young upcoming bird guides who are fresh from college
